Continuous API access

Two elements determine the applicable API licence: how ECO EPD data is used and the scale of access required.

1. Identify your Use Category

Your Use Category depends on how ECO EPD data is used and who can access the data or resulting functionality.

External Tool Use
ECO EPD data powers functionality for external users

For software tools or digital platforms offered to external End-Users, whether paid or free, that use ECO EPD data for calculations, LCA, benchmarking, reporting, search, viewing or other functionality without providing downloadable or reusable machine-readable ECO EPD data.

Key rule: End-Users cannot download the underlying ECO EPD data.

Internal Tool Use
ECO EPD data is used within your organisation

For integrating ECO EPD data into internal systems or workflows used only within your own organisation and not made available to external users.

Key rule: Internal use only; no external access to the tool or redistribution of ECO EPD data.

Database Use
ECO EPD data itself is made accessible

For structured data services that store, index or display ECO EPD data and allow third parties to access or download the data.

Key rule: If ECO EPD data itself is made available to external users for download or reuse, Database Use applies.

The applicable Use Category is determined in accordance with the current ECO Portal Terms & Conditions.

2. Your Use Class is determined during registration

ECO Platform determines the applicable Use Class based on the information provided during registration. Your Use Class defines API capacity, administration options, support level and the applicable annual fee.

Standard Client
For typical API use within the defined Standard thresholds
  • 3 User API Keys
  • 1,000 requests/minute
  • 100,000 requests/day
  • Email support
High-Performing Client
For larger-scale or higher-intensity API use
  • 100 API Keys per user
  • Organisation API Keys and administration
  • 10,000 requests/minute
  • 1,000,000 requests/day
  • 10 support hours/month included, with defined first-response times under the applicable SLA.

Start-Up Client eligibility

Ready to apply for commercial API access?

Register for API access and provide the information required to assess your use case and determine the applicable Use Category and Use Class.

  1. 1 - Register & describe your use

Provide your organisation details and the information required for classification.

  2. 2 - API access starts

For an eligible new Client, the office approves your Application by issuing your Client Offer, starting trial API access immediately. This one-time Free Trial Period runs through the Brussels issuance date plus 14 calendar days, inclusive; your Offer displays the Accept-by Date.

  3. 3 - Review your Client Offer

Review your Client Offer in the system. Complete Billing Information and accept the Terms and Conditions and Offer by the displayed deadline. Declining or correcting an Offer does not restart or shorten the remaining trial.

  4. 4 - Continue your licence

Timely acceptance ensures automatic API continuation into the 365-day annual API License Period without another office activation, invoice action or payment gate at that transition. The office issues the invoice after trial end, with payment due within 21 days of its date. Without timely acceptance, trial-derived API access ends at the deadline; Free Viewer Access and independent rights remain.
